Political aspirations

October 19th, 2008 by h0m

I’ve been watching a lot of news lately about my home country. In South Korea, people are in a rage because the government made a bad deal with the United States about beef. In the deal, S. Korea can receive beef older then 30 months. I didn’t realize how old beef could me. When i am at the super market, i try to pick and choose the fresh looking packages of beef, but i guess they are all pretty old. Anyway, older beef increases the chances of mad cow and etc.

The new president of Korea was popular before and after the election. He was supposed to be a savior for the people of my mother land. But, like all presidents of my country, he gets blasted.

When i was a young child, i saw something on the news that was disturbing. I saw the former president of Korea being hit with tomatoes and eggs and garbage as he was being escorted onto a bus. Apparently, he was a criminal and had a lot of people killed during his presidency. He also stole a lot of money from the government. I thought every politician did this? Isn’t that a given? Why the uproar?

I thought that was an exceptional case. But, in S. Korea, every former president gets that type of treatment. Seems like it’s not worth it to go thru with your political aspirations. It reminds me of the Tudor period. Kings, Queens, and Nobel men getting killed.
